Welcome to Pontiac!

Pontiac was created by the amalgamation of Onslow-South, Onslow-North, Quyon and Eardley in 1975.

Our municipality runs along the Ottawa River beginning at the west boundaries of the Aylmer sector in the City of Gatineau. You will pass through many hamlets on highway 148 before arriving in Quyon, which is our urban centre, approximately 50 kilometres from Gatineau.

To the north and north-east of us are the municipalities of Chelsea and La Pêche, which are on the other side of Gatineau park, one of the most beautiful parks in Canada. Approximately 2/3 of the park is situated within our boundaries.

Close to 5,000 inhabitants live here and appreciate the magnificent rural landscape which is made up of agricultural terrain enclosed by the Ottawa River and the Eardley escarpment. This escarpment is a unique geological formation which was made by glaciers that also moulded our region when the Champlain Sea receded.

There are presently very affordable building lots available in our municipality to accommodate family life, where you will also find French and English elementary schools.

There are two main sporting facilities; one is situated in Luskville and another in Quyon. Several groups use these facilities for various activities, such as ball games, soccer games and in-line skating. There are two main sports and recreation committees in charge of organizing baseball, soccer and hockey teams for children.

Our rural community has always been focused on farming, a good sense of morals and a conclusively proven low rate of crime. There are 8 churches in our municipality that are all quite old and beautiful.

One of the riches of the Ottawa valley is most certainly its’ history…. Pontiac being a great example with its’ ancient villages and Amerindian sites. There is an old horse railroad and a beautiful canal which was constructed in the 1800’s that was never used. We are hoping to make this canal part of an attraction for a future regional park in that area.

A marina and camp grounds in Quyon, as well as the bicycle trail and the Chats falls Regional Park are structuring projects which are presently under study or in progress in our municipality. The proximity of the village of Quyon to the Ottawa-Gatineau urbanized area is an undeniable asset for the development of tourism.
